Uta Hagen Technique
Add a world renowned technique to your skillset and lay strong foundations for a successful career. Start Date: Monday 24th March 2025
Taught directly by renowned acting coach Peter Rasmussen, this acting course will cover the five exercises in Uta Hagen’s book – A Challenge for the Actor. We will then apply these techniques to scene and monologue work.
This is the same course studio founder Peter Rasmussen taught at QUT to the Bachelor of Fine Arts Acting Students for four years, including Emily Weir, Mitchell Burke and Sisi Stringer.
This technique will show you how to make a scene believable for you and thrilling to watch by others. Subsequently, you will work to discover how to be you in the given circumstances of every scene you perform.
These techniques are important for the stage, screen and in self-tests.
This course is suitable for actors of all skill levels wanting to create rich, dramatic and truthful work.
These classes are for dedicated students of acting to safely and effectively grow their craft.

“I cannot rate or rave about Peter Rasmussen Casting high enough! A wonderful human, who is a supportive Casting Director and generous acting coach. As actors, we are lucky to have him available to us in Queensland. I have done a few courses with Peter over the years, and I always learn so much which improves my acting for the next job or audition. In regards to castings, Peter has a wonderful way of directing actors in the room. He makes you feel at ease, thereby, getting the best performance from you. If you are looking for that next step towards levelling up your craft, then I urge you, do your artistry a favour and sign up for one of Peter's courses...or a few.”
Miyuki Lotz“Peter has truly taught me the art of ‘subtlety on camera’ when auditioning for a role. He utilises his techniques and exercises so wonderfully in the moment, that before I knew it I was no longer “acting” or “pushing”, I was simply was telling the truth. He has enabled me to learn what is important when auditioning for film and TV and what to simply throw away. Not only is Peter an amazing teacher, he is also a real ally in championing his students all the way to reaching their goals. I simply couldn’t have gotten where I am today without his help and guidance.”
Emily Weir, Actress: Home and Away.“Peter is a pleasure to work with and learn from. His lessons are clear and interactive, and he genuinely cares about helping his students improve at their craft. I've taken so much away from my time with Peter that I'll use both professionally and personally. I can't wait to work with him again and would recommend his courses to any level of actor. ”
Kim O“Peter understands what it takes to be an actor in the landscape of Australian film. Challenging, at times daunting but always finding the fun and joy of what we do. Can't recommend Peter enough!”
Jordan Pearce“Peter Rasmussen brings his years as a casting director and actor to his coaching with an eclectic mix of wisdom, humor and insight. He is a gentle yet honest coach with great compassion. I highly recommend the professional as well as the beginner to work with this man!”
Laura Gardner, Actress: The Romanoffs, Fresh Off The Boat.“Peter’s intimate knowledge of film and television gave me the confidence to approach auditions with a fresh set of perspectives. I’ve feel I now have a set of skills in my actor’s toolbox to always fall back on. Thank you Peter! ”
Dudley Powell“It’s rare to find a person so dedicated to extracting the best out of a performance or the artist. I had the pleasure of working with Peter in two self-tests, both very last minute and time stressed. Through workshopping and direction we explored together to come up with two tests that I walked away proud of; which to me is the aim of the game. Knowing you’ve put your best foot forward and your hat in the ring for a part is the beginning and the end of our work sometimes. If you can say you’ve done that, you’ve done your work.Oh, and I got the job. Maybe both.”
Ryan Corr, Actor: Packed to the Rafters, House of the Dragon.“I had the privilege to complete an 8 week in studio Uta Hagen course with Peter Rasmussen. His personal touch to the Uta Hagen techniques and knack for tailoring his teaching techniques for each individual actor, made for an enjoyable and beneficial experience. Cant wait to use these new found skills in my next audition. Thank you Peter for helping me step back into the moment. ”
